Commercial Electrical Fit-Out in Bristol:

Yakiniku Restaurant Case Study

Business Electrical Ltd specialises in commercial electrical installations across Bristol, with a particular focus on restaurants, retail spaces, and hospitality venues. Our recent work on Yakiniku, a Japanese BBQ restaurant, shows what that looks like in practice: a technically complex, design-led fit-out delivered from a stripped-out shell to a fully operational restaurant.

Over several months, the project brought together advanced power systems, bespoke lighting, fire safety, and data infrastructure. This case study walks through how we delivered it, from first fix to final commissioning.

Project Overview

Yakiniku’s concept, Japanese BBQ cooked at the table, meant the electrical design had to support a specific combination of demands:

  • Table-integrated cooking systems
  • High-load commercial kitchen equipment
  • Coordinated extraction and ventilation
  • Atmosphere-driven restaurant lighting
  • A fully compliant fire alarm and emergency lighting system
  • Integrated CCTV and data networks

Our job was to balance all of that against performance, compliance, and the look the designers were after.

First Fix & Power Distribution

Starting from a full strip-out, we tested the existing systems, removed redundant circuits, and planned containment routes across both floors, coordinating closely with the construction team before walls and finishes went in.

For power, we installed a multi-board distribution system with:

  • Submains feeding dedicated distribution boards
  • Three-phase power for kitchen equipment
  • Surge protection and RCBO-protected circuits
  • Separated front-of-house and back-of-house systems

This balances load, allows for future scaling, and meets current regulations.

BBQ Table Power & Kitchen Systems

Each table-mounted grill needed its own dedicated radial circuit, power routed through the floor, hard-wired connections, and sealed fittings to withstand heat and cleaning, all coordinated tightly with flooring, joinery, and kitchen designers to keep it safe and visually seamless.

The kitchen itself needed three-phase circuits for heavy-duty appliances, gas interlock integration for safety, and power for extraction, ventilation, air conditioning, and heat recovery, all coordinated with the mechanical contractors so the systems ran as one.

Lighting & Smart Controls

We layered recessed LED downlights, track lighting, feature points, and architectural LED strips, with dimmable circuits, zoned switching, and centralised controls so the space can shift mood from lunch through to evening service.

Smart controls also covered PIR motion sensors, a last-man switch, and centralised switching, cutting energy use and simplifying day-to-day running.

Basement, Fire Safety & Security

Basement back-of-house areas got re-routed power, upgraded ventilation, lighting, emergency systems, and extended data infrastructure.

We installed a fully compliant multi-zone fire alarm system (smoke and heat detection, sounders, visual alarms, battery-backed control panels), commissioned it, and trained the client’s team.

For security and connectivity, we fitted HD CCTV with central recording and remote viewing, plus structured CAT6 cabling and separate business and guest Wi-Fi provision.

Flexibility, Testing & Handover

As the build progressed, we adapted to changes in socket layouts, lighting, and equipment connections without affecting the programme. Before handover, everything was fully tested and certified, including emergency lighting, fire alarm commissioning, and final inspections, so the restaurant was ready for safe operation.

Yakiniku pairs clean, exposed-ceiling design with high-performance electrical systems: warm, adaptable lighting, seamless table-integrated cooking, and safety and security systems that work in the background.
