Commercial electrical installation often involves aspects of electrical work that are more specialist, technical and labour-intensive than domestic installation. As jobbing commercial electricians, here are some of the things we consider when approaching a commercial installation:

  • Three-phase electrical power and distribution board installation may be required to support the higher electrical demand of a commercial installation.

  • Industrial plant and machinery that have specific power requirements.
  • Commercial lighting design and installation may be required. We’ll take your lumin and kelvin requirements into account!

  • We can sub-meter parts of an electrical installation so you can measure electrical use across different areas of a property.

  • Cabling must be contained and channelled to ensure the safety of customers and employees.
  • Metal cable tray, basket and conduit might be chosen to meet a certain aesthetic.

  • Data requirements may mean that wifi installations must be able to meet specific network demand. We’re experts in LAN networking and infrastructure.

  • A specialist sound-system might be needed.
  • Emergency lighting needs to be installed and maintained appropriately.

  • Attendant services such as fire and security alarms
  • And as anyone who’s ever run a venue knows, commercial lighting and lighting design make the crucial difference between a dive-bar and a bustling, popular venue
  • A commercial EICR may need to be performed to sign the installation off before entering commercial use

Electrical Contractor – Case Studies

The Bristol Loaf, Bedminster, Bristol

We were asked by the owner to install commercial power, circuitry and lighting in keeping with the bright and breezy design. Single and three-phase supplies were required to power the seating area and a full commercial bakery and kitchen. Our commercial electricians routed the cabling neatly in galvanised trunking, basket and tray. An assortment of lighting including battens, track lighting, low-bays and decorative pendants were used to keep the space looking warm and welcoming. A full data cabinet was installed, with CAT5 and wireless access points providing connectivity across the space. Just to spice things up, most of the installation was completed during the COVID lockdowns in 2020. The space won a gold London Design Award 2020.

Flamingo Vintage, Bristol City Centre

The brief was to design and install an old-time looking (but not old-time-operating!) electrical installation for a Flamingo Vintage outlet in Central Bristol. We used directional spots mounted on tray and centrally-mounted LED battens to produce moody lighting in keeping with the grungy interior. The expensive stock required a modern CCTV system. We installed a full fire alarm system, including a Grade C LD2 compliant panel, glass break points and smoke alarms. A sonos sound system for blaring out retro muzak was par for the course! We do electrical contracting with style!

The Canteen, Stokes Croft, Bristol

Brought in to update the back of house at The Canteen, we were tasked with installing a new commercial kitchen and updating the bar area. We installed a 3-phase supply to power the ovens in addition to a gas interlock system, fire alarm and new socket and lighting circuits. Pendant, spot, batten and emergency lighting was put in as we worked around the kitchen installers, along with new heat lamps for the service area. A full commercial EICR was performed signing the installation off for commercial use.
